DONALD R. 'PETE' EDWARDS

Donald Ray "Pete" Edwards, 69, died Monday night at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Alice Williford and William "Bill" Edwards, and brother of the late Pamela Kay Stanley.

At the age of 13, Pete went to work with Mr. George Smith at his grocery store in Adamsville. He then worked at the Air Vue Drive-In, and then Gurley's Exxon.

In 1967 he began a career that spanned 22 years with Kemp Furniture Co. In 1989 he became a salesman for High Point Pneumatics, where he worked until his retirement in 2005.

Pete was the past Cub Scout Master for Pack 17 and a member of Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. He loved his church family and the church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer and a member of the board of directors.

He also loved to write poetry.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, Grace Sauls Edwards; his sons, Delbert and Judy Edwards, Keith and Toni Edwards; his brothers, Eddie Jones of Las Vegas, Nev., Don and Louise Edwards, Joey and Cindy Edwards, Wilbert Ray and Lalani Edwards all of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Brittany and Charles Rodriguez, Leia Edwards and Trevor Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.
