LARRY G. FREDERICK
Died Feb. 14. 2012
RALEIGH -- Larry G. Frederick, 74, passed Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at his home in Raleigh.
He was son of John and Annie Bell Frederick, born in Durham in January of 1938.
He had four siblings, and was a very active, athletic and musical youth.
As a boy, Larry was often heard on the radio singing with his brothers, sister, father or mother. This love and talent for music carried him through his life as part of The Frederick Brothers quartet. The foursome has sung worldwide.
Most notable musical accomplishments include USO concerts for troops stationed in foreign countries and concerts at the Pentagon, making a chart-recognized record with Columbia Records and performing recently at the well-known Crystal Cathedral.
While music was important to Larry, he shone as a skilled athlete in football, baseball and basketball, and followed the family talent for excelling as a sprinter. He earned various sports scholarships, accepting a football scholarship at the University of North Carolina.
Later he was inducted in the Goldsboro High School Hall of Fame and the prestigious George Whitfield Hall of Fame.
Larry was owner and president of Frederick Insurance since 1975, where he had 27 outstanding years with his nephew and business partner, Ron Frederick.
He was active as a church leader at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, and served as president of Wake County Independent Agents Association and other organizations.
Larry always thought of others ahead of himself. He was quick with a humorous story of his youth, or of his time as a loving father to his three children. This optimism earned him an unusual number of close friendships. He was guiding light to many, having led numerous individuals to Christ.
Larry's family appreciates the special care given to him by his home health nurse, Christie Carlsen, and the many kindnesses of close friends, family and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Newbould Frederick, and his son, Larry "Randy" Frederick.
Surviving are daughters, Carol F. English and Jennifer L. Turner and her husband, Lance; grandchildren, James E. "Jack" English and Anna L. English; siblings, Bob and Joyce Frederick, Don and Della Frederick, Linda and Joe Robinson and Carlton Frederick and wife, Josephine; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Road, Raleigh, N.C., 27615. Interment will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
