ATLANTA, Ga. — Robert Lee Massey, 86, Atlanta, died Friday, May 27, 2011.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 65 years, Mary “Pete” Massey of Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Clinton and Carolyn Massey of Goldsboro, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Herman Stephens of Loganville, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Massey of Woodstock, Ga.; sister, Virginia Kiser of Matthews, N.C.; six grandchildren and their spouses; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A native of Weddington, N.C., and a graduate of Sharon High School, in Charlotte, N.C., class of 1942, Robert served in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the 158th Combat Engineer Battalion in the European Theatre, including the Normandy Invasion and Battle of the Bulge.
After leaving the armed services, he met the love of his life and became a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather and great-grandfather “Paps.”
Robert’s quick wit, sense of humor and love for his family will be missed.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at North Atlanta Memorial Park, with Dr. Al Clark officiating.
