GERALD LEE ARMSTRONG

Gerald Lee Armstrong was born to William and Betty Armstrong Feb. 1, 1957, in Wayne County. He departed from this life Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.

He attended Goldsboro City Schools.

He worked for Franklin Bakery and Wayco Ham until his health failed him.

He was a member of the Holly Green Missionary Baptist Church, where he served in several capacities such as president of the usher board, choir member, Sunday school teacher and deacon elect.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Armstrong.

He leaves to cherish a loving wife, Angela Brewington Armstrong of the home; a son, Domanick Jones; three daughters, Tawanda Jones, Katisha (Carlos) Santas and Tamika (Roger) Smith all of Goldsboro, N.C.; a loving mother, Betty Armstrong; a father William (Louise) Armstrong; a mother-in-law, Dorothy Battle all of Goldsboro, N.C.; three brothers, William Armstrong of Goldsboro, N.C., Jackie Armstrong of Goldsboro, N.C., and Monty (Anita) Armstrong of New Bern, N.C.; a sister, Irene (David) Witt of California; two aunts, Eva Howard of Goldsboro, N.C., and Annie P. Vaughn of Goldsboro, N.C.; an uncle, Roy Pearsall of Bowden, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn (James) Spruill of Goldsboro, N.C., and Betty (Johnny) Mervin of Virginia Beach, Va.; five brothers-in-law, Dock (Loretta) Brewington of Raleigh, N.C., Chester Brewington of Goldsboro, N.C., Anthony Brewington of Goldsboro, N.C., William (Elaine) Moore of Goldsboro, N.C., and Willie (April) Brewington of Goldsboro, N.C.; five grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews; and a very special goddaughter, Mrs. Gloria Richardson of Goldsboro.

A viewing will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family present to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

A service of remembrance will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Bear Creek Headquarters building. After which, Mr. Armstrong, along with his cherished family, will be escorted to Wayne Memorial Park for interment rites.

The family is receiving services of compassion and distinguished class from E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where Mr. Armstrong's earthen vessel is peacefully resting.
