MABEL H. EDMONSON

Mabel Humphrey Edmonson died Wednesday at home.
A private interment will be held at Willow Dale Cemetery followed by a memorial service Friday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Drew Clark and the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating.
Mrs. Edmonson was born in Goldsboro Dec. 15, 1920, to the late Mabel and Don Clingman Humphrey.
She graduated from Saint Mary's High School and Junior College.
During World War II, she worked at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in accounting and administrative positions. Later she opened and operated a book shop in downtown Goldsboro.
She also taught bridge and was active in duplicate bridge games.
Mrs. Edmonson was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was active in the Presbyterian Women, where she was an honorary life member. Her volunteer work included United Way, Salvation Army Auxiliary, PTA and the Red Cross.
Mrs. Edmonson is survived by her sons, Don Humphrey Edmonson and wife, Nancy, and James Watkins Edmonson Jr. and wife, Barbara; three grandchildren, Lauren Edmonson, Leigh Edmonson and Mark Edmonson; two nieces; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Watkins Edmonson, and her half brothers, Col. Thomas McCrary and Col. Arthur McCrary.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
