Mamie Ruth Exum Staten died Jan. 7 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Celebration of life services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at New Spirit Church Ministries, 1501 N. William St. in Goldsboro. Final resting will take place in Hamilton Family Cemetery in Goldsboro.
Mamie Staten was born Dec. 18, 1952, to the late Frizzell Exum Sr. and Ruth Hamilton Exum.
"Judy," as she was affectionately known, graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 1972. Judy was united in matrimony to the late Linwood Earl Staten Sr. in 1978.
Judy worked in food services for many years until her health began to decline.
Judy is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Joseph (Maleken) of Goldsboro; four sons, Tyrone Exum and Quinton Cox both of Goldsboro, Linwood Earl Cox of Atlanta, Ga., and Victor Cox of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, John Exum of New Bern and Carzell Exum of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Bettye Cox of Raleigh, Laurotte Miller of Youngsville and Katrina Artist of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Krissina, Malexen Jr. and Javiare Joseph of Goldsboro Keyona, Keira Cox of Huntsville, Ala., and Cynclair Jernigan of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two special nieces, Joy and Latarche Exum of Goldsboro; a special nephew, Reco Exum of Raleigh; a special sister-in-law, Connie Artist; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frizzell Exum Jr.; a sister, Linda Faye Exum; a special uncle, Reuben Hamilton; and a special aunt, Lillie Hamilton Peton.
Visitation for Ms. Mamie Staten is scheduled for Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. at E. M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Inc.
Her earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc., where the Staten family is receiving compassionate and caring service.
