MELVIN J. MOZINGO

Melvin J. Mozingo, 88, passed away on Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center to go be with his Heavenly Father, family members and friends.
A service to remember Melvin's life will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Ira Williford and Ronnie Kearney officiating. The family will receive friends Monday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.
Melvin was born in Wayne County on July 10, 1921, to the late Eddie Mozingo and Mattie Carter Mozingo. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Before his retirement, Melvin was a farmer and also had poultry houses. He helped build and organize the Pinewood Fire Department and served as their assistant chief for several years. He also helped build New Hope Church of God and did construction work at Clingman Street Church of God, where he was a member for 50 years. Melvin was a charter member of United In Christ Church and held church services in his home while the church was being constructed. He had a great love for golfing, bird hunting and yard work.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Ruth Hopewell Mozingo; his son, David Kim Mozingo of Goldsboro; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ira Talmage "Thigie" Thigpen of Goldsboro; his granddaughter, Ginger Thigpen Winter and husband, P.J. Winter, of Goldsboro; his sister, Evelyn Price of LaGrange; and several nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. He is also survived by his extended family, Lonnie and Mildred Rast.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Emmett Mozingo, Alvin Mozingo and Alton Mozingo.
