VIOLA C. SMITH

Viola Carter Smith, 91, went home to be with her Lord Friday at Britthaven of Goldsboro surrounded by her family.

A service to remember Viola will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell and McGee Smith officiating. Interment will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Viola was born to the late Emmitt Carter and Hepsie Smith Carter of Wayne County.

She was a homemaker and farmed beside her husband while caring for her five children.

She retired from Guardian Care of Goldsboro with 20 years of service. She was a lifetime member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

She loved cooking, spending time with her children, grandchildren and working in her yard.

Viola is survived by her sons, J.W. "Bud" Smith and wife, Pat, of LaGrange, Ken Smith and wife, Ann, of Goldsboro and Roger Smith and wife, Kay, of Goldsboro; her granddaughters, LuJene Merritt and husband, Buddy, of Goldsboro and Angela Kay Sherman of Colorado; her grandson, Sam Smith of Goldsboro; her great-grandsons, Christ-opher Wayne Merritt of Goldsboro and Derik and Alec Reiman of Colorado; and her great-granddaughter, Stevie Ann Reiman of Colorado. She is also survived by her brother, Gordon Carter and wife, Frances, of Pikeville and Emmitt Carter of Goldsboro; her sister-in-law, Cleo Carter of Goldsboro; and her brothers-in-law, Edward Smith and wife, Norma Lee, of Goldsboro and Jimmy Smith and wife, Tinsey, of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Smith; a son, Ray Smith; a daughter, Sandra Smith Sherman; a grandson, Jesse Paul Smith; her sisters, Pauline Bundy, Nora Mae Bartlett, Nelton Whitfield and Mary Lee Smith; and her brothers, Alton, Edsel and Linwood Carter.

The family will receive friends Saturday following the service and other times at the home of Ken and Ann Smith, 2041 Mark Edwards Road in Goldsboro.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Britthaven of Goldsboro, Betty Coley and Continuum Hospice Care.
