Janet Croom Butler, 307 N. Carolina St., departed this life peacefully Tuesday at her home.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at
11 a.m. at St. James AME Zion Church, 206 S. George St. in Goldsboro, with Dr. Dwight W. Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mill Cemetery, 2925 Central Heights Road in Goldsboro.

Janet was born in Wayne County Aug. 22, 1911, to the late Webster B. Croom and Mamie Peacock Croom.

She attended the Wayne County public Schools and graduated from Dillard High School in 1936 at the tender age of 15. Janet attended Fayetteville State College and graduated from Barnes Business College.

Janet was married to the Rev. Alonzo Butler Jr. for 60 years as of July 24.

She joined St. James AME Zion church at an early age and was a faithful member until her departure.

Janet assisted her husband, the Rev. Alonzo Butler, faithfully in his ministry for 281/2 years.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, mother-in-law, sister and friend.

Mrs. Butler leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband, the Rev. Alonzo Butler Jr.; one daughter, Faye R. Smith; one son-in-law, the Rev. Marshall A. Smith of the home; one sister, Lillian Arrington of Denver, Colo.; one grandson, Nathan A. Vann of District Heights, Md.; one great-granddaughter, Lakia J. Vann of the home; one great-grandson, Nathan A. Vann Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Bullock of Far Rock Away, N.Y., Nancy Thompson and Connie Brown of Faison and Mallie Stocks of Kinston; one brother-in-law, Chester Stock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A public viewing will be held Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. James AME Zion Church, 206 S. George St. in Goldsboro.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of the Rev. Alonzo Butler Jr., 307 N. Carolina St. in Goldsboro.
