William David Griffin Jr., 80, of Rain Tree Lane, died Friday at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, with Dr. Bob Fulkerson officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
He was the son of the late Ethel Callis and William David Griffin and was married to Delores "Peggy" Griffin for over 59 years. He attended Madison Avenue Baptist Church, and was a member of the Womble-Farmer Sunday School Class. Mr. Griffin was known as a doting grandfather, an avid golfer and a master woodworker, and was also retired from Southern Bell with over 38 years of service.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Griffin is survived by a daughter, Jeanie Sherman and husband, Mike, of Goldsboro; a son, Jimmy David Griffin of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Sam and wife, Gina Fornecker, Mitch Fornecker and Sarah and Paige Griffin; a special nephew, Donald and wife, Bimel Yang, and son, Haoming Liu; a sister, Shirley Page of Raleigh; and a half sister, Anne Stanley of Angier.
Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by a son, Timothy "Tim" Griffin; a brother, Gilbert Griffin; and a half brother, DeWitt Griffin.
