SAM RIVENBARK

Sam Rivenbark, 88, of Rose Hill died Friday, June 5, 2009, at Duplin General Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Island Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Ginn officiating.
He was born Feb. 25, 1921, in Duplin County and was the son of the late Junie B. and Nancy Teachey Rivenbark. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Charles Leonard Teachey; brothers, Walter Rivenbark, Ralph Rivenbark and George Rivenbark; and sisters, Flora Rivenbark and Sarah English.
Mr. Rivenbark served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He owned and operated Rivenbark's Grocery Store in the Island Creek Community for 43 years. He was a lifelong member of Island Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 69 years, Dorothy Teachey Rivenbark of the home; son, J.F. "Bud" Rivenbark and wife, Donna, of Sneads Ferry; daughters, Linda Rivenbark Teachey of Mount Olive and Jeri Rivenbark Bradshaw and husband, Harry W., of Rose Hill; granddaughters, Brenda T. Barwick and husband, Ricky, Deborah T. Shivar and husband, Phillip, Jill B. Brisson and husband, Jeff, and Ginger C. Bradshaw; great-grandchildren, Cody Wendorf, Matthew Shivar, Hope Shivar and Jaleigh Caroline Bradshaw; sister, Arlene R. Yow of Wilmington; special nephew, Jimmy Parker and wife, Angie, of Hampstead; and family friend Gary Faircloth.
Entombment will follow with military honors in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m., today at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace and other times at the home of Sam and Dorothy Rivenbark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Island Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 237 Pasture Branch Road, Rose Hill, N.C. 28458.
