JOHN J. NAY

John Joseph Nay, 80, passed away Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church followed by a service to celebrate John's life at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow the service in the church columbarium. The Rev. Bill Ordelt will officiate.
John was born in Ronan, Mont. on Sept. 5, 1928, to the late Charles Nay and Hilda Sass Nay. He was a retired engineer with Hevi-Duty Electric. John had served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a talented craftsman and was the holder of two patents. John's passion was golf and if it was a beautiful day, he enjoyed being on the links sharing shots and laughter with his friends. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he was instrumental in the building of the columbarium.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Woida Nay; his son, Michael John Nay and wife, Ellen Jones Nay, of Lumberton, Texas; his daughters, Debbie Hatcher Watkins and husband, John Douglas Watkins, of Raleigh and Sandy Nay Hawkins and husband, David Douglas Hawkins, of Columbia, S.C.; his grandchildren, Douglas Michael Nay and wife, Bethany Warren Nay, Betsy Ellen Nay, Lisa Michelle Nay, Dustin Tyler Hatcher, Blair Watkins, Doug Watkins, Matthew John Hawkins, Jacob Hawkins and Taylor Hawkins. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Nay of Detroit, Mich. and his sister, Elsie Lange of Detroit, Mich.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Nay.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation for the compassionate care given to John by the nursing staff on the 7th floor of Wayne Memorial Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 532 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
Arrangements are being handled by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
