Died Jan. 12, 2009
Mrs. Martha Whitehurst Mills, 81, died Monday.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Mills, daughter of Samuel and Martha Irene Whitehurst, was a native of Pitt County and lifelong resident of Greenville. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended East Carolina Teachers College. Until her retirement, she was employed as credit manager for Brody's for more than 30 years. She was a member of Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Mills, in March 2004; son Harold L. Mills Jr., in January 2005, and a sister, Patsy Levin.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn M. Davis and fiancé, Bob Hite, of Goldsboro; son Samuel A. Mills and wife, Cheryl, of Greenville; daughter-in-law Debbie Vann Mills of Raleigh; grandchildren Hannah Atkins, David, Jacob, Courtney and Jonathan Mills; great-granddaughter Abigail Atkins; sisters Lula Mae Wilson, of Winterville, and Carolyn Tucker of Texas, and brother Arthur Lloyd Whitehurst, of Plymouth.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
