LAURA BLANCHE WILLIAMS WILSON
June 6, 1932-Dec. 30, 2008
MOUNT OLIVE -- Blanche, beloved wife of Joseph William Wilson, died Tuesday Dec. 30, 2008, due to health complications surrounded by her loving family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Julia Frances Garris Williams Edwards and George Jordan Williams, and the granddaughter of the late Melvin and Laura Frances Barwick Garris with whom she lived for a period of time.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph, and two daughters, Mary Frances Wilson Guilliams and husband, Jimmy, and Esther Jo Wilson Davis and husband, Charles, all of Mount Olive.
Also surviving are Nana's grandchildren, Laura Rachel Barwick Rouse and husband, Dexter; James Aaron Barwick III, and Hannah Lottie Guilliams, all of Mount Olive; a sister, Marjoray Williams Shivar of Seven Springs, and her family, Laura, Shivar, and Jimmy; a brother, Oscar Milton "Dick" Edwards and his family, Candy, M.J., and James Paul, all of Seven Springs; an aunt, Rachel Garris and Harley of Mount Olive; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Lawrence, Elizabeth and Nancy Wilson; two young ladies dear to her, Laura Rose and Beth Daly Smith; and a faithful care-giver through the years, Ada Ruth Faison.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was predeceased by a sister, Laura Mae Williams; her step-father, Otha Millton Edwards; a brother-in-law, Ned Shivar; and a sister-in-law, Judy Wilson.
Blanche was a graduate of Seven Springs High School and attended nursing training in Kinston. In early years, she worked for the late Doctors McCuiston and Lownes in Mount Olive, and was a substitute teacher for Mount Olive Junior High School. In January of 1986, she was in a horrid automobile accident near her home which left her legally blind and which caused her to become basically home bound. She did, however, enjoy time spent with Joseph and their family, and special cousin, Dora Williams Beavers, at the family cottage at Topsail Island.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. at her chosen location on the family farm, with visitation to follow. Officiating will be the Rev. Gerald Garris (her cousin) and the Rev. Christopher Turner.
The family will be at the home place at 949 Kelly Springs Road, Mount Olive, N.C.
The family wishes to extend warm thoughts to the many doctors, nurses and caregivers who extended tender care to Blanche over the years.
Floral expressions are surely welcomed by this family, and for those who wish to do so, memorial gifts are asked to be made to the Blanche W. Wilson Memorial Scholarship, c/o First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 239, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
Arrangements are being handled by Tyndall Funeral Home.
