BEN H. WEST

Ben "Dick" Hardy West, 92, passed away Sunday night at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro with bishop Gary Corbett officiating. Burial will follow at Willowdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dick was born in Wayne County on May 4, 1916, to the late Walter Barden West and Olivia Yelverton West. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. West was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Simeral, Whit and Harry West.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Edna Sauls West; one son, Fred B. West and his wife, Anne of Raleigh; one daughter, Betty Parker and her husband, William of Winterville; two brothers, Howard West and his wife, Betty Gray of Belfast and Cary West and his wife, Hilda of Patetown; two sisters, Margie Parks of Goldsboro and Julia Owens of Kinston; six grandchildren, Kelly Parker Overby and her husband, Larry of Goldsboro, Ben Parker of Smithfield, Matt Parker of Greenville, Neil Parker and his wife, Paula of Ayden, Sherry West of Bloomington, Ill. and Kyle West Hall and her husband, Scott of Raleigh; and six great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro where condolences may be posted at howellfuneral.com.
