PIKEVILLE -- Johnny H. Summerlin Sr., 74, of Big Daddy's Road passed away Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. The family will receive friends prior to the service today from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter, Janet McBride, 1625 Lan-caster Road in Pikeville.
Mr. Summerlin was born in Wayne County on Feb. 28, 1934, to the late Bud and Maggie Sutton Summerlin.
He is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean Summerlin; his children, Peggy S. Talton and her husband, Ricky A., of Raleigh, Johnny Summerlin Jr. of Pikeville, Janet S. McBride of Pikeville and her husband, Stan, of Wilmington, Bobby R. Summerlin of Pikeville and Tammy S. Williford and her husband, Robert, of Pikeville; six grandchildren, Tommy A. Talton and his wife, Rebekah, Jamie Cassady, Kevin R. Talton and his wife, Emily, Jessica A. Summerlin, Chris Williford and Josh Summerlin; four great-grandchildren, Summer L. Cassady, Kailey Cassady, Abbygayle G. Talton and J. Tyler Talton; one sister, Margaret Ivey of Goldsboro; one brother, Grover Summerlin of Kentucky; and a special friend, Buster Williams of Pikeville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Summerlin was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Jones and Martha Jones; and one brother, Rudy Summerlin.
