ALMA B. RHODES

SANFORD -- Alma Bass Rhodes, 91, Fayetteville, passed away Friday, Oct. 17, in Ashewood Estates.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted on Sunday at 3 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Anderson Street,
by the Rev. A. Edward Beddingfield Jr. and the Rev. Brent Rector. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
She organized and taught the deaf ministry, was a deaconess and the first female church treasurer at First Baptist Church. She was secretary-treasurer for both the Cumberland County Association for the Blind and the Fayetteville Ladies Lions Club. She also taught sign language classes at Fayetteville Technical Community College and at Fort Bragg. She was a retired head bookkeeper for Methodist University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Rhodes in 1986.
She is survived by a son, Robert J. "Dusty" Rhodes and wife, Gail of Waycross, Ga.; two daughters, Ava Spivey and husband, Mack of Sanford and Rose Thweatt of Fayetteville; four brothers, the Rev. Marion "Pete" Bass, Will Bass and Emerson Bass, all of Eureka and Mack Bass and wife, Betty Jo of Kinston; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
