Died Sept. 30, 2008
William Ray Carr Sr., 85, 1009 E. Eleventh St., died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1000 E. Eleventh St. The burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Carr was a native of Wayne County and was the son of John Spicer Carr, Sr. and Hattie Mae Cogdell Carr. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many capacities.
He is survived by his children, Jan Aycock and husband, Allen of Fremont, Bill Carr and wife, Vanessa of Ararat, Va., Kathy Collins and husband, Norman, of Goldsboro, Jeanne Cupp and husband, Stan of Willow Springs, John Carr and wife, Nancy of Clayton, Jim Carr and friend, Sheila Hinnant of Goldsboro, Robert Carr and wife, Robyn of Saint Johns, Fla., and daughter-in-law Dawn Carr of Goldsboro; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Spicer Carr Jr. of Mount Olive; and two sisters, Viola Clinnard and her husband, Dempsey of Greensboro and Jewel Casey of Kinston.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Everette Jinnette Carr; two brothers, Livius Marion "Pete" Carr and Edward Glenn Carr; sister, Louise Carr Ingram; and a grandson, Stephen Mark Carr.
The family will receive friends at the church during the hour prior to the funeral on Thursday, and other times at the residence.
