KINSTON -- Cecil Jones Sr., 85, 545 Charlie Herring Road, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church Cemetery.
Mr. Jones was born in Lenoir County to the late Claude and Dora Rouse Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Junie Hardy Jones and was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church. Mr. Jones farmed and served as custodian at LaGrange Elementary School for 36 years. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering and assisting the children of Kennedy Home.
Mr. Jones is survived by a daughter, Jane Sutton and husband, Stanley of LaGrange; son, Cecil Jones Jr. and wife, Cindy of Creswell; five grandchildren, Preston Sutton and wife, Sheila of Kinston, Freddie Sutton of LaGrange, Melissa Armstrong and husband, Paul of Simpson, Kayla Jones of Creswell and Austin Jones of Creswell; two great-grandchildren, Chase Sutton and Noah Armstrong; four sisters-in-law, Martha Hardy, Rena Mae Hardy, Catherine Jones and Bernice Jones; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Sutton, 1832 Sutton Shortcut Road, LaGrange.
