MARGARET B. TAYLOR

Mrs. Margaret Britt Taylor, 84, died Sunday at home surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Providence United Methodist Church, 202 Providence Church Road. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at 483 Sandhill Drive and after the burial in the church parlor. The Rev. Dr. Jerry A. Jackson will be officiating.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Halifax County on Jan. 1, 1924, the first daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Britt Sr. and Nannie Alice Gossett Britt. Mrs. Taylor enjoyed and embraced life. She was retired from the Roanoke Rapids, N.C., city schools, where she was a librarian.
She made it her lifetime goal to share the love of reading and books with all who knew her. Her collection of books is very vast. She also was active in Girl Scouting, United Methodist MYF Leader, taught Sunday School, was active in the Garden Club and the Cooperative Extension in Snow Hill for many years and is a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She became active once she moved to Goldsboro in helping to organize the crime watch for the Southwood Estates area, worked with the Heart Fund, and was beginning to become an avid bridge player. Crossword puzzles were something she mastered nightly.
She also had a real passion for cooking, bird watching and gardening. She will well be remembered for her pecan and lemon chess pies during the holidays. She leaves us with a wonderful legacy of memories to reflect on. She was kind, gentle, shy and a friend to many. She enjoyed helping anyone she could and was someone family and friends could count on.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her daughter, Kristie B. Montague and husband William Rand Montague Jr. "Bill" of Goldsboro; her grandson, Adam Rand Montague and granddaughter, Sarah Montague Dixon and husband Matthew Dixon; and one great-granddaughter, her namesake, Taylor Elizabeth Dixon, all of Goldsboro. She is also survived by two sisters, Gwendolyn Britt Buckner of Kill Devil Hills and Rachel Britt Ellis and husband A.P. Ellis of Roanoke Rapids, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by special in-laws Edward Taylor and wife, Mable, of Raleigh, Vivian Taylor, Lois Taylor Batten, Ellen Taylor and Ruby M. Britt, all of Roanoke Rapids. And last but not least her beloved yellow lab companion, Yager, who brought her many hours of comfort and joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Geraldine Britt Baird, Gasburg, Va.; her brother Benjamin F. Britt, Jr, Roanoke Rapids; and the love of her life for 53 years, her husband, Raymond M. Taylor.
