Willie Ray Newkirk entered this earthly life Dec. 27, 1954, to the late Lenora Jane Gillespie and James William Newkirk.
He departed this journey June 13, 2008, at his home with his family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bible Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 1807 S. Slocumb St. Pastor Jimmy Mumford will officiate. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
Ray graduated from Southern Wayne High School. After high school, he entered the United States Army. After completing his military service, he began working at Cooper Standard Automotive. Ray was an employee of Cooper Standard for 20 years.
Ray enjoyed a loving marriage with his surviving wife, Mary Elizabeth Newkirk.
He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Letitia (Corey) Parker of Raleigh, N.C., Crystal Nicole Best of Snow Hill, N.C., and Raven Nicole Newkirk of Mount Olive, N.C.; one sister, Edna Harper of Faison, N.C.; three brothers, James Earl Newkirk of Georgia, Allan (Andra) Newkirk of Mount Olive, N.C., and Morris Newkirk of Mount Olive, N.C.; one aunt, Juanita Robertson of Virginia; three grandchildren, Alexia Best, Marissa Best and Sierra Johnson; a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The viewing will be held Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries, 900 S. George St.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 401 Banks Ave.
