STUART, Va. -- James Washington Flowers, 86, died Sunday, June 1, 2008.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Flowers-Parker Cemetery, west of Mount Olive.
A native of Mount Olive, N.C., he was born Feb. 22, 1922, to the late John William and Mary Reaves Flowers.
He was a graduate of Mount Olive High School, and began a career in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot in World War II. He continued his military career for 33 years and fought in three wars. He received various medals and honors and retired in 1975 as a regular lieutenant colonel .
In addition to his parents, Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Flowers Kice; two sisters, Nancy Flowers Grantham and Lucille Flowers Thigpen; and two brothers, John William Flowers Jr. and Don Carlos Flowers.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Flowers; a son and daughter-in-law, Stan Flowers and Dr. Jeanne Flowers of Stuart, Va.; a granddaughter, Stacy Flowers Martin of Stuart; three grandsons, Darian Flowers of Raleigh, James Kice of Reno, Nev., and Private First Class Peter Kice of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; two great granddaughters; and three great grandsons.
