GENNIE K. ONDILLA
Died May 26, 2008
DURHAM -- Ms. Gennie K. Ondilla, of Durham, passed away early Monday morning, May 26, 2008, at Britthaven of Chapel Hill.
Ms. Ondilla was born in Wayne County, and was the daughter of the late Inez Langston Keen and John Lealon Keen.
Gennie graduated from Meredith College in 1954 with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. She taught school for the next 20 years and loved teaching first- and third-grade children. In 1971, she graduated from Georgia State University with her master's degree in education and continued teaching until 1974 when she decided to make a career change.
She became a real estate broker and sold real estate in Atlanta, Georgia, until 1998 when she retired. In real estate, she made the 100 percent Club every year beginning in 1974 until 1998. She was also in the Million Dollar Club consecutively for her last five years in real estate.
Gennie was a very active member of her community in Atlanta. She belonged to the Welcome Wagon, the Women's Auxiliary and loved her Dining Out Group. Due to health reasons she moved to Durham to be closer to family.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Daniel and son-in-law, Larry Daniel of Durham; son, Robert T. Ondilla Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, J.L. Keen of Milton, Fla.; two sisters, Loree Keen of Raleigh and Elease Reed of Leesburg, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Alex Daniel and Sarah Ondilla.
