PIKEVILLE -- Jessie Lee Mothershead, 83, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be today at 7 p.m. at Minshew-Coley Funeral Home Chapel in Kenly. The Rev. Barry Stallings will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Kenly Cemetery.
Mrs. Mothershead was born in Wilson County on Aug. 19, 1924, to the late David F. and Atsy Durham Peele. She was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She wrote beautiful poetry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Mothershead; a son, Stephen Mason Mothershead, brothers, Nelmer Peele and David Peele; sister, Eloise Fields; half-sister, Eula Watson; and half-brother, L.D. Peele.
Surviving are a stepson, Royce Mothershead; devoted cousin, Kathleen Radford of Pikeville; and 10 nieces and nephews. She was the honorary grandmother of Lawrence and Landon Pipkin.
Thanks to her special caregivers and a special thanks to Dr. Douglas Fullington and staff and to the staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends following the service.
