RALEIGH -- Ira Rufus Cox Jr., 79, died Friday afternoon at Rex Hospital. He was born in Wayne County on Dec. 4, 1928, to the late Ira R. Cox Sr. and Katherine Johnson Cox.
The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Jean Hood and Todd Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ira is survived by his wife, Recca Cox; his son, Ira R. "J.R." Cox III of Raleigh; his sisters, Sarah Connor of Raleigh, Ruby C. Blackmon of Goldsboro and Gladys McCullen of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four stepchildren, nine stepgrandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
