DUDLEY -- Elizabeth Maness O'Berry, 85, of 266 Club Knolls Road, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was born in Montgomery County to the late John Ray and Christian Elizabeth McLeod Maness and was wife of the late J. Thomas O'Berry Jr. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Doris Jean O'Berry; and a grandson, Jared Tracy. Mrs. O'Berry was a retired teacher and guidance counselor from the Wayne County Schools and was a member of Dudley Christian Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, past president of the Christian Women's Fellow-ship and former member of the State Regional Board for the Disciples of Christ. She was also a former fire commissioner for the Dudley Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Blane Smith of Dudley Christian Church in Dudley and pastor Douglas Dexter of First Christian Church of Mount Olive officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
Mrs. O'Berry is survived by four daughters, Diana O. Steed and husband, Joedy, of Candor, N.C.; Anne O'Berry of Melbourne, Fla.; Brenda O. Dexter and husband, Douglas, Martha O. Tracy and husband, Steve, both of Dudley, N.C.; two sisters, Doris Poole and husband, Henry, of Mint Hill, N.C.; Jean Allen and husband, J.F., of Biscoe, N.C.; one brother, John Kent Maness and wife, Cara, of Robbins, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and nu-merous nieces and nephews.
Family members will greet friends Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and other times at Mrs. O'Berry's home, 266 Club Knolls Road, Dudley, N.C.
