BROWNIE H. JERNIGAN

KINSTON -- Brownie Hargrove Jernigan, 82, passed away on Wednesday.
She was employed at Caswell Center where she retired with 30 years of service and after her retirement she continued to be a private home health care provider. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, loving sister and aunt. She loved fishing, playing the piano, singing, crocheting, cooking, going to yard sales and spending time with family and friends. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. Brownie was very instrumental in coordinating numerous family reunions and the yearly reunion of the Calypso High School Class of 1945. She was a member of the former Faith Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings E. Jernigan; three brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Dolores Jernigan Lee and husband, David, of Dover; sons, Bobby Jernigan and wife, Civel, of Kinston, Ed "Bud" Jernigan and special friend, Edwina, of Wilson, Sherwood Jernigan and wife, Carolyn, of Mount Olive, Donald Jernigan and wife, Leslie, of Kinston, Rex Jernigan and wife, Katherine, of Pikeville, Ray Jernigan and wife, Rhea, of LaGrange, Doug Jernigan and wife, Diane, of LaGrange; sister Lettie Lou Proctor of Elm City; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and canine companion, "Itty Precious."
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2206 Hull Road, Kinston. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
