EDENTON -- Emily Lane Long, 96, died Monday in Britthaven of Edenton.

Mrs. Long was born in Chowan County to the late Charlie Robert and Julia Chappell Lane but lived most of life in Perquimans County. A former teacher in the Perquimans County school system, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude M. Long Sr.; and brothers, Charlie Walton Lane and Winston Earl Lane Sr.

Surviving are a son, Claude M. Long Jr. and wife, Ruby, of Greenville; a daughter, Faye Long Ward and husband, James B., of Goldsboro; three sisters, Mary Lane Long and Julia Lane Elliott, both of Edenton, Lucy Mae Lane White of Hertford; four grandchildren, Michael Ward and wife, Carrie, of Mebane, Steven Ward of Kansas City, Mo., Claudia L. Spencer and husband, Doug, of Tarboro, Martin Long and wife, Alexis, of Farmville; and five great-grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Ward, Nathan and Emma Spencer, Haleigh Long.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Garry Mickey. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Ceme-tery, Hertford. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence, 157 Long Lane.
