WILLIAM E. GODWIN
Died Jan. 13, 2008
William Edward "Shorty" Godwin, 85, of the Belfast community, died Sunday. A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Preston Marvin and Bertha Inez Creech Godwin, and was the widower of Evelyn West Godwin. Mr. Godwin was a retired brick mason and a member of the Belfast VFD for 28 years. Shorty served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Godwin Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Doug Bartlett officiating.
Mr. Godwin is survived by his sons, Eddie Godwin, Randy Godwin and wife, Patricia, all of Goldsboro; a daughter-in-law, Judy Godwin of Goldsboro; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Shorty was preceded in death by a son, Steve Godwin; and a brother, Ransom "Dick" Godwin.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 151 Belfast Road.
