J. FAISON THOMSON

J. Faison Thomson, 84, a long-time resident of Goldsboro, died Thursday afternoon at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

Faison was born in Wayne County to the late J. Faison Thomson Sr. and Mary Louise Davis Thomson. He was married to the late Nancy Jones Thomson. Faison practiced law in Wayne County for over 50 years and was a life-time member of First Presbyterian Church. As a community civic leader, Faison was a Mason and Shriner and was a member of the Goldsboro Kiwanis Club, the Goldsboro Jaycees and the Toastmasters. He was also a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge #139 B.P.O.E. Faison was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati and the Huguenots Society. Scouting was very important to Faison, and he supported the Boy Scouts of America Tuscarora Council in many ways and had attended the World Jamboree in 1937.

Faison graduated from the Episcopal High School and later graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Faison later attended and graduated from the Wake Forest School of Law.

A service to celebrate Faison's life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Drew Clark and the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating.

Faison is survived by his daughters, Marsha T. East and husband, Jeff, of Raleigh and Laurie T. Moore and husband, Michael, of Fuquay-Varina; his grandchildren, Hunter Faison East, Nancy Avis East, Alex Thomson Moore and Spence Robert Moore; his brother-in-law, Tom Faison; his nephews, Dr. William A. Peters, Faison Thomson Peters, Dr. Brandon Peters, Dr. Bryan Peters, Powell Peters and Thomas Faison; and his niece, Elizabeth Faison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058 or the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends Saturday following the service in McChesney Hall at First Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
