J.W. WELLS
MOUNT OLIVE -- J.W. Wells died unexpectedly at his home on 142 Dale Road, Mount Olive, on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007. He was born in Tampa, Fla., to the late Johnnie Mac and Sadie Dixon Wells and was preceded in death by his brother, Everette Dixon Wells.
He was a retired carpenter who was well-known for his carpentry work which included any kind of building from decorative cornices and cabinets to beautiful homes. He was a quiet man who loved the simple life, his home and who was most happy in his woodworking shop. He will be remembered for his service in the Korean War, the many times he helped his friends and for the special way he sounded when he laughed.
Mr. Wells is survived by two brothers, McCray Wells of Mount Olive and Cecil Wells of Houston, Texas; along with five sisters, Shirley Wells Ellis, Beverette Wells Davis, Peggy Wells Whitted, Linda Wells, all of Mount Olive, and Betty Wells Reaves of Little River, S.C. He is also survived by a special friend, Donnie Marie Dixon and her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Karen Marie Dixon and Chris Lee. He left a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a great-great-niece and two great-great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at the Wells-Southerland Cemetery on Williamson Road, near Rones Chapel, with pastors the Rev. Richard Hill and the Rev. Steven Wicks officiating. His family will receive relatives and friends at the William and Beverette Davis home, 514 W. Main St., Mount Olive, on Friday night, Nov. 2, 2007, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to a favorite charity or church.
