SEVEN SPRINGS -- Robert Eugene Detwiler, 74, died Wednesday. Mr. Detwiler was born in Philadelphia to the late Robert and Madeleine Valin Detwiler. Robert grew up in Traverse City, Mich., and graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1950. He served as a medic with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Robert graduated from the Ferris State School Of Pharmacy before owning and operating Detwiler Drugs which had three locations in Michigan. Robert and his wife, Christine, had a great love of travel, twice visiting 49 states in their motorcoach. They have fond memories of sailing to Saint Thomas in their boat on which they lived for six years.
A private graveside memorial service will be held at Seven Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Robert is survived by his wife of 24 years, Christine Sutton Detwiler; three children, Stephen Detwiler of Torch Lake, Mich., Michelle Sheckler and husband, Douglas, of Cedarville, Mich., Deborah Calley and husband, Larry, of Battle Creek, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Robbie Detwiler, Lindsey Detwiler, Jennifer Sheckler, Kelly Sheckler, Aaron Heathcote, Carly Heathcote and Erika Heathcote; and special family friends, Ted and Cathy Manville.
