BEATRICE G. BARFIELD

Beatrice Garris Barfield, 92, died at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on Monday. Born in Wayne County to Mertie Garris and Fletcher Garris, "Beadie," as she was known to family and friends, graduated from LaGrange High School. She was married to William J. Barfield for 53 years before his death in 1988.
One of seven siblings, she was predeceased by one brother, Wesley F. Garris, and all four sisters, Luna G. Lane, Bessie G. Coker, Ruby G. Ward and, most recently, Inez G. Butts. One brother, Ralph M. Garris, survives her.
Mrs. Barfield was predeceased by her son, William J. "Buck" Barfield, in 1976. She is survived by two daughters, Janet Barfield Herring and her husband, Bert, of Morehead City and Lou Barfield Zopf and her husband, Tom, of Dummerston, Vt., and one daughter-in-law, Sarah Barfield Caldwell of Greensboro. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Gray H. Sullivan and husband, Mac, of Goldsboro, Leigh H. Lawson and husband, Darryl, of Mechanics-ville, Va., Melissa H. Walker and husband, Sam, of Rocky Mount, David Herring and wife, Michele, of Bowie, Md., Betsy Herring and Chris de Maagd of Seattle, Wash., William Wesley Barfield and wife, Pam, of Apex, Dainese Barfield Keever and husband, John, of Greensboro, Maude Zopf Brewer and husband, Dan, of Norwich, England, and Adam Thomas Zopf and wife, Regina, of Washington, D.C. She was blessed with 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with Mac Sullivan officiating.
The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the funeral service and other times at the home of Gray and Mac Sullivan, 1550 Cuyler Best Road, Goldsboro. Private interment for the family will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.
