JOE W. SMITH

Joe William Smith, 79, a resident of the Pines, died this morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. A native of Wayne County, he was born the son of the late John G. and Nora Gurley Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. He retired from Jennings Transmission Service.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Grady officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Joe is survived by his wife, Dora Lee Grant Smith; son, Pete Smith and wife, Pat, of Goldsboro; daughters, Peggy Colvin, Rose Daniels and husband, Dennis, and Bobbie Wise, all of Goldsboro; brother, James "Shine" Smith of Goldsboro; sisters, Esther Mae Casey of Goldsboro, Ava Faircloth of LaGrange, Nora Ann Edmundson of Goldsboro and Vernell Quinn of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Roger Colvin, Shirley Johnson, Tonya Anderson, Michael Smith, Charlene Vaughn, Lisa Gery, Allen Dail, and Amanda Wise; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Laulas Newsome, Sarah Emma Davis and Mabel Coker; his brothers, Robert Smith, John G. Smith Jr. and Rex Smith; and his son-in-law, Roy Colvin.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Pete and Pat Smith, 607 Kentucky Drive, Goldsboro.
