SMYRNA, Ga. -- Ivon B. Brashear, 82, formerly of Goldsboro, died Tuesday evening at home at Delmar Gardens in Smyrna, Ga.

A native of Viper, Ky., he was the son of the late G. Lee and Margaret Brashear. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U. S. Navy, Army and Air Force. After several Embassy assignments in Europe, in 1959 he was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base until his retirement in 1965. For more than 25 years, he was owner and manager of the Pine Valley Texaco Service Station on Highway 70 West.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 532 Country Day Road, of which he was a member. Pastor Bill Ordelt will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Begley Brashear; his sons and daughters-in-law, Harold D. Brashear and wife, Jody, of Goldsboro and Douglas L. Brashear and wife, Donna, of Torrance, Calif.; his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa B. Brooks and husband, Scott, of Acworth, Ga.; his sisters, Mary Lee B. Hoffman of Amarillo, Texas, Virginia B. Budacki of Algonquin, Ill., and Peggy B. Bright of Columbus, Ohio; and grandchildren, Lee Brashear of New York, N.Y., Christine Brashear of Goldsboro, Brittany Brashear of Torrance, Calif., and Rebecca, Suzanne and Wesley Brooks of Acworth, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Astor and Marvin Brashear, and two sisters, Alma B. York and Sallie B. Granlund.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 532 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home on Sunday, June 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at the home of Harold and Jody Brashear at 119 Fairway Drive.
