Annie Mae Ellis Jones Clarke, 71, died Tuesday at Rex Hospice Center, Raleigh. She was born in Wayne County to Robert and Ida Powell Ward Ellis. She attended Wayne County Public Schools and lived her adult life in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Malaby's Crossroads Baptist Church, 911 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, with the Rev. James S. Utley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Larry Jones and wife, Jane Rhoe, of Cleveland, Ohio; grandson, Jamison Jones; great-granddaughter, Zailah Jones of Goldsboro; niece and caretaker, Betty Hinnant Wilcox, with whom she lived; sisters, Catherine Ward Hinnant, Walletta Ward Crawford and husband, Willie, Ruth Ellis Rowe, all of Goldsboro; brother, Charles Ellis and wife, Mary, of Charlotte.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Carlton L. Gray Funeral Chapel, 2810 Kidd Road, Raleigh. Family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
