RAYMOND D. MARTIN

Raymond David Martin, 73, of 480 Charlie Braswell Road, died Tuesday evening at his home surrounded by his family.
Raymond was born on April 18, 1933 in Johnston County to the late Emmett Martin and Sallie Holloman Martin. He was a long-time farmer in the Rosewood Community, where he enjoyed working with his quarter horses and cattle. Raymond was a former board member of the Wayne County Livestock Developmental Association and was a life member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Princeton, where he was a member for over 44 years. The Rev. Justin Thomas and the Rev. Greg Allison will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Hill Martin; his son, Garry and Joanie Martin of Princeton; his daughters, Debbie Martin Worley and husband, Larry, of Princeton; Sandra Martin Cole and husband, Dennis, of Princeton; Patsy Martin Gurley and her friend, Robert Gurley, of Pikeville; and Sherry Martin Walston and friend, Maxwell Peters, of Princeton; his grandchildren, Kimberly Strickland and husband, Jason, Adam Cole and wife, Andrea, Candice Allison and husband, Gerrad, David Gurley and wife, Kristie, Brooke Lupo, Ashley Martin, Kristen Martin, Kelli Martin, Alexis Martin and Trent Walston; and five great-grandchildren, Kyla, Tony, Tyler, Joshua and Macie. He is also survived by his brothers, Harold Martin and Ransom Martin of Princeton; his sisters, Marie Peedin and Rosa Lee Holt of Princeton; and his special caretaker, work-hand and friend, Wendi Wainright of Goldsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Johnny Gurley; one sister and three brothers.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
