GUY A. BEDFORD

Guy Ashley Bedford, 80, of 155 Princess Drive, died Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Mr. Bedford was born in Johnston County and was the son of the late William and Betty Smith Bedford. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for 24 years, a Sunday school teacher and a trustee for many years. He was the owner and operator of Family Shoe Store since 1963 and was a downtown businessman for 50 years. His enjoyment as a businessman was his customers.
Mr. Bedford was a member of the Pikeville Lions Club, where he had served as president and deputy district governor. He was selected as the recipient of the Jack Stickley award by Lions International for outstanding service to lionism. Mr. Bedford was also a lifetime member of the Belfast Fire Department with 20 years of service.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Pikeville Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Evangeline "Pete" Pittman Bedford; son, Phil Bedford and wife, Janice, of Goldsboro; sister, Agnes Taylor Sullivan of Kenly; brothers, Charlie Bedford and wife, Nancy, of Atlanta, Ga., and Allen Bedford of Tampa, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Unity Walk, care of Dana D. Lewis, 206 Delbert Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534 or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday following the service.
