John "Sweetsie" W. Isler Jr., 65, 406A St., died Friday. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late John W. Isler Sr., and Esther Harper Isler and a brother, Curley L. Isler.
Funeral services will be noon Thursday at Bear Creek Missionary Baptist Headquarters with the Rev. Charles Franklin, officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
He is survived by his former wife, Linda Isler; daughters, Michelle I. Craig of Goldsboro, Stephanie M. Isler of Dudley, Vickie A. Parker and husband, Maurice, of Newport News, Va.; sons, Linwood Atkinson of Virginia Beach, Va., James Atkinson of Ohio; grandchildren, David Michael Craig II, Destiny Mi'chel Craig, Latrese N. Parker and Victoria S. Parker; sisters, Esther I. Johnson and husband, Alano, of Goldsboro, Marie Smith and husband, Billy, of New Bern; brothers, James W. Joyner of Homestead, Fla., Swindell Isler Sr. and wife, Mary, Charles T. Isler and wife, Marie, Larry E. Isler and wife, Janice, all of Goldsboro, Randolph Isler and Elvis R. Isler, both of Dudley; aunts, Della Lee McCullough, Nancy B. Harper, Elouise Battle, all of Goldsboro; uncles, Emmitt Isler, Wilber Isler and wife, Mary, all of Goldsboro; sister-in-law, Thelma H. Isler of Goldsboro; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; a beloved pet, Duke.
Viewing will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Atkinson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 634 S. Oak Forest Road.
The family will receive friends at other times and assemble at 231 Wayne Ave., in preparation for the funeral.
