Traffic stops result in stolen gun, drug trafficking arrests

A Goldsboro man is facing several weapons charges following a traffic stop by the Goldsboro/Wayne County Regional Enforcement and Crime Targeting Team.
On Saturday evening, Goldsboro/Wayne County Regional Enforcement and Crime Targeting Team members stopped a vehicle in the area of Slocumb and Elm streets for an observed vehicle equipment violation.
While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, deputies noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and a firearm was recovered. The firearm was discovered to be stolen.
Monte' Worrells, 19, of 503 Warren St., was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor.
Worrells was taken before a Wayne County Magistrate where he was given a $3,500 secured bond and placed into the custody of the Wayne County Detention Center.
In a second stop, this one on Sunday by the Wayne County Drug Unit Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team, a Eureka man is facing drug and weapon charges.
On Sunday, the ACE Team stopped a car for speeding on N.C. 222 near Fremont.
The driver was Thomas Cal Artis Jr., 30, 107 Chase St., who gave officers consent to search the vehicle.
During the search officers found approximately 45 grams of crack/cocaine, a set of digital scales and a concealed handgun.
Artis was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon.
He was jailed under an $8,500 secured bond pending his initial court appearance.
