Dustin Metts, Riley Swearingen and Cody Steele give Roo Roo, a 3-year-old bassett hound, a bath during the Wayne County Humane Society's annual dog wash Saturday outside Pet Supplies Plus. Roo Roo's owner, Andrew Shaw, says that his dog gets a bath once or twice a month and the timing of the dog wash couldn't have been better. The fundraiser took in more than $450 this weekend for the Humane Society's food pantry and low-cost spay and neuter programs, member and education chair Suzi Wharton said. A total of 16 dogs were washed Saturday morning at Pet Supplies Plus, 319 N. Berkeley Blvd. The local pet supply depot partners with the Wayne County Humane Society to raise funds and accept donations to help low and fixed-income families care for their pets. The next fundraiser, a dog walk dubbed "Bark in the 'Borough," will be held Sept. 28 in Waynesborough Park. Humane Society members also reminded people that there are always plenty of animals available for adoption at the Wayne County Animal Adoption and Education Center, 1600 Clingman St. For more information, call 919-731-1439.
