Mount Olive Presbyterian Church was the setting Dec. 28, 2014, for the ceremony uniting Julie Anne Cavenaugh and Joshua Holmes Smith in marriage.

The bride is the daughter of Andy and Ava Ayers Cavenaugh of Wallace and the granddaughter of the late Curtis Proper and Mary Murphy Ayers of Rose Hill and the late R.C. and Frankie Hanchey Cavenaugh of Wallace.

The bridegroom is the son of Jeffrey and Sherry Barwick Smith of Dudley and the grandson of Peggy Outlaw Barwick and the late Morris Elwood Barwick of Mount Olive and Gene Holmes Smith and the late William Nelson Smith of Goldsboro.

The double-ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Jonathan L. Best.

A program of prenuptial music was provided by harpist Elspeth Berry of Williamsburg, cousin of the bride.

Vocalist was James Austin of Raleigh. He was accompanied by pianist Jacob Wallace of Rose Hill.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore a satin and tulle ballgown, which featured a full skirt of layers of tulle and a satin and lace bodice embellished with seed pearls and sequins accented with a halter neckline.

A tiara fronted the chapel-length veil made especially for the occasion by the bride’s aunt.

The bride carried a cascade bouquet of white and red roses accented with purple larkspur and evergreen.

Martha Ayers, aunt of the bride, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Sarah Davis-Householder of High Point and Rebekah Whitley-Best of Florida, friends of the bride.

Junior bridesmaid was Miss Grace Smith, cousin of the groom.

Miss April Padgett and Miss Adeline Cavenaugh, cousins of the bride, served as flower girls, and wore matching white ballgowns echoing the bridal gown.

Mr. Jeffrey Smith served as his son’s best man.

Serving as groomsmen were Jacob Cavenaugh, brother of the bride; Keith Ayers, uncle of the bride; and James Austin and Nathaniel Grubbs, friends of the groom.

Master Cooper Smith, cousin of the groom, served as ringbearer.

The bridal registry was attended by Justin Holt, friend of the couple.

The wedding was under the direction of Ms. Rebecca Hill.

Candles in the windows were placed in honor of the groom’s brother, Jordan Morris Smith, master at arms, United States Navy, currently serving overseas.

Julie and Joshua are making their home in Morrisville, N.C.
