Kate Elizabeth Nichols and Christopher Charles Bourgerie of New York City exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Aug. 23, 2014, at 6:30 pm.

The bride is the daughter of Benjamin Gregory and Rhonda Lancaster Nichols of Pikeville, the granddaughter of Benjamin Franklin Nichols and the late Elga Wells Nichols of Pikeville, Marjorie Combs Wooten of Goldsboro and the late Billy H. Lancaster of Pikeville and the stepgranddaughter of the late Edward Wooten of Goldsboro.

She is a graduate of New York University with a Bachelor of Science degree in media, culture and communication. She is employed in the marketing division for licensed product development at Fisher-Price.

The groom is the son of Richard Pierre and Michele H. Bourgerie of New York, N.Y., and the grandson of the late Elmer Herbert and Margaret Leatherwood Bourgerie of Washington, D.C., and the late Carl and Celeste Rupprecht of Honolulu, Hawaii.

He is a graduate of Pace University with a Bachelor of Arts in public accounting. He is employed as an accounting manager at Hudson Housing Capital LLC.

The wedding ceremony was held at the home of the bride, where vows and rings were exchanged on the front porch gazebo. A small gathering of close family and friends witnessed the special occasion.

The bride and her bridal party were driven to the ceremony by Mr. John Vause, a close friend of the family, in his in his 1949 vintage red Ford truck.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Marty Gurganus, uncle of the bride, officiated the ceremony.

The bride wore a wedding gown of ivory tulle and intricate beadwork from the Casablanca collection. It was a floor-length ballgown silhouette with a dropped waistline. The strapless fitted bodice was adorned with hand-embroidered crystals, and the full skirt was embellished with a floral design that trailed down the chapel-length train.

She also wore a fingertip-length veil with matching crystals. Her bouquet was adorned with a diamond heirloom that was worn by the mother of the groom on her wedding day.

Tracie Lynn Head of Scottsdale, Ariz., and close friend of the bride, served as maid of honor.

The bridal party consisted of the brother of the bride, Benjamin Nichols of Wilmington, N.C., and friends of the bride, Andrew Poole of Minot Air Force Base, N.D., Zachary Poole of Raleigh, N.C., Capen Rhew of Raleigh, N.C., Ian Lawson of Raleigh, N.C., and Phil Hardy of Wilmington, N.C.

Brother of the groom, Justin Bourgerie of New York, N.Y., served as best man.

Groomsmen were close friends of the groom, Drew Wellin of New York, N.Y., and Yash Dalal of New York, N.Y.

Andrew Bass, Michael Gurganus, David Gurganus and Brett Lancaster, cousins of the bride, served as ushers during the ceremony, and Alexander Bourgerie, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer. Kristen Nichols, cousin of the bride, distributed church fan programs that were adorned with a woven peach and lace pattern designed by a colleague and close friend of the bride.

A program of wedding music was provided by Benjamin Nichols, who played the acoustic guitar and sang a series of songs selected by the bride and groom. Marty Gurganus, Connie Gurganus and Dwayne Nichols also provided special music during the ceremony.

Rhonda Nichols and Marjorie Wooten coordinated the evening’s events, while Kitzi Lancaster Bass and Anna Davis Bass directed the wedding.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a Victorian-themed reception beneath a canopy of mason jar lanterns hanging from the home’s pecan tree.

Sandra and Woody Head, close friends of the family, directed the reception. Table centerpieces, designed by Sandra Head, were fashioned with unique pedestal cake plates topped with an assortment of glassware, peach roses and strands of pearls. A dinner of Southern delicacies, catered by James Bunch, was served from a buffet ensemble of peach-colored pieces of circa 1930s furniture. Guests were entertained with cocktails, music and dancing on the checkerboard dance floor designed and constructed by the bride and her father.

After a wedding trip to Mo’orea and Bora Bora of the French Polynesian Islands, the couple resides in New York City.

Events before the wedding included an engagement barbecue hosted by the bride’s family in Wilmington, N.C.; an engagement party hosted by the parents of the groom at their home in New York City; a bachelorette evening hosted by friends of the bride on a dinner boat cruise at the New York North River Lobster Co., followed by a country music concert in the city; a Southern-themed bridal lunch the week prior to the wedding hosted by the bride’s Fisher-Price family; and a surprise bachelor weekend in Miami, Fla., hosted by the groom’s best man and groomsmen.

This wedding announcement was published in memory of the late Elga Wells Nichols, grandmother of the bride and former women’s editor of the Goldsboro News-Argus.
