Johnson-Pike
Jennifer Lauren Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., and Dr. John Maxwell Pike Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 25, 2014, at half past 5 on the front lawn of Tryon Palace in New Bern, with the Rev. James Harold Harry officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Donald Johnson of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Dr. Donald C. Johnson, Betty C. Johnson and the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. Richardson and the late Linda D. Johnson all of Washington.
She graduated in 2006 from Spring Creek High School and Meredith College in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She is employed as a preventive care account executive at Myriad Genetics.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Maxwell Pike of Goldsboro and the grandson of James D. Pike Jr. and the late Effie Ruth Pike of Goldsboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Hazel of Garner.
He graduated in 2003 from Wayne Country Day School and in 2007 from Washington and Lee University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2013. He is employed as a physician in the pathology and laboratory medicine residency training program at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
The bride wore a silk chiffon and silk dupioni circular cut ballgown designed by Justin Alexander. The natural-colored gown featured a classic sweetheart neckline with a draped waist and a gathered bodice. The back waistline was accented with an askew bow at the center atop a chapel-length train. The gown was customized with a silk chiffon one-shoulder strap and a rhinestone embellished belt in rum pink. The bride wore a fingertip-length veil and headband wrap embellished with small rhinestones and pearls. She carried a bouquet of Sarah Bernhardt, Pink Parfait and Princess Margaret peonies with Rainforest hydrangeas accented with seeded eucalyptus and Italian ruschus that was wrapped with lace from her mother’s wedding gown and adorned with a hummingbird brooch belonging to her late grandmother, Mrs. Richardson.
Jamie Johnson Harford of Raleigh served as matron of honor, while Jaclyn Johnson of Goldsboro was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. PJ Fidler Gray of Wilmington, Miss Kaitlin Murphy of Raleigh, Mrs. Kelly Murphy Strong of Cary and Miss Aliza Roach also of Raleigh.
Mr. John Maxwell Pike of Goldsboro served as best man.
Groomsmen were Mr. Sutton Ansley of Washington, D.C., Dr. Vishal Dhandha of Chapel Hill, Mr. Chris Garrison of Kansas City, Mo., Dr. Mark Foster of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mr. David Wilson of Boston, Mass., Mr. Ross Wilson of Madison, Wisc., and Mr. Galen Littmann of Raleigh.
Dr. Brett Fair of Chicago, Ill., was also a groomsman, but unable attend.
Miss Anna Scott Lafevers, Miss Bree Lafevers of Goldsboro and Miss Kate Richardson of Marietta, Ga., were flower girls.
Mr. Kyle Richardson of Marietta, Ga., was ringbearer.
Mike and Kathy Guzzo of Southern Hospitality Services directed the wedding. Miss Katie Sayce of Charleston, S.C., and Miss Sarah Sayce of Pinehurst, cousins of the bride, distributed programs.
Special wedding assistant was Mrs. Barbara Novicki. Scripture reader was Mrs. Jamie Pike Kelly of Raleigh, cousin of the groom.
The wedding ceremony music was provided by a string trio led by Mrs. Eulalia VonFosson and students, Mr. Jared Hall and Mr. Ausin Hart from Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the North Carolina History Center. Guests were entertained with cocktails and dancing on the waterfront of Bates Commons, where the bridal party arrived via a trolley. Dinner was served inside the history center in Mattocks Hall. Tables were decorated with a collection of blue and white porcelain that belonged to bride’s late grandmother and other pieces belonging to the mothers of the bride and groom. An array of flowers, including blue and white hydrangeas, green gladiolus, pink peonies, pink tulips and white roses with mixed greenery filled each piece of china.
After a wedding trip to St Lucia, the couple resides in Kansas City.
The groom’s parents hosted a cocktail hour prior to the rehearsal dinner that was held at Bank of the Arts in downtown New Bern. The dinner was held at the Chelsea Restaurant where the creative talents of “Read Between the Wines” Book Club of Goldsboro decorated the venue with a nautical theme.
Events held before the wedding included an engagement party given by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pelletier, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Maxwell, Ann Maxwell, the Wes Pike family and the Jim Pike family at the Pelletier home; a shower held in Cary given by Rhonda Kaspar and Hettie Grisette; a bachelorette weekend in Charleston, S.C., by the bride’s sisters, Jamie Harford and Jackie Johnson, along with the bridesmaids; a bachelor’s weekend held in Kansas City; a day at the beach on Friday of the wedding weekend where friends enjoyed fun in the sun with the bride and groom in Pine Knoll Shores; a bridesmaids’ luncheon held at New Bern Country Club given by Nancy Wilson, aunt of the groom, and Charlotte Murphy, a family friend; a breakfast and brunch for the bridal party on the wedding day at the historic Daves House hosted by aunts of the bride, Cindy Sayce and Amy Richardson and after parties held each night of the wedding weekend hosted by the groom’s parents at Christoph’s Lounge at the Doubletree New Bern.
