Amber Gray Kirby and Kevin Patrick Talley exchanged wedding vows in a service of holy matrimony Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Western Presbyterian Church of Washington, D.C. The Revs. Brian and Ruth Hamilton officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Annette Kirby of Mount Olive, N.C., and the late Mr. James Brock Kirby of Mount Olive. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Eula Swinson of Mount Olive, the late Mrs. Edna Brock Kirby of Calypso, N.C., and the late Mr. Isaac Ray Kirby of Fremont, N.C.

She is a high school graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham, N.C. She attended North Carolina State University, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She continued her education at Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston Salem, N.C., where she received her Juris Doctor, before attending The American University in Washington, D.C., where she received a Master’s of Law in law and government and Master’s of Public Policy. She is employed as a tax associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in McLean, Va.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Frances Kohlmeier and husband, Mr. Carl M. Kohlmeier of Waxhaw, N.C., and Mr. Kevin David Talley of York, Pa. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Agnes McEntee of Glen Rock, N.J., Mrs. Joan Miller and the late Mr. Jack Miller of York, Pa., and the late Mr. James Andrew Talley of York, Pa.

He is a high school graduate of West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Md. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa., with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a minor in philosophy. He is employed as senior director of Federal Legislative Affairs at International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association.

The bride was escorted by her brother, Mr. James Brock Kirby Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., and given in marriage by Mr. Kirby and their mother.

She wore a formal fitted gown of ruched royal white satin with a chapel-length train. The gown had an embellished halter neckline and back detailed with beads, crystals and rhinestones.

Her veil was cathedral-length white illusion accentuated with a petite edge of satin ribbon secured with a rhinestone hair pin. She carried a large rounded bouquet of white and blush garden roses, white spray roses and miniature white calla lilies with touches of ruscus. White miniature calla lilies and ruscus trailed the bouquet, which was hand-tied with a knotted white silk ribbon.

Matrons of honor included her childhood friends, Mrs. Ashley Brodzinski of Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Lindsey Blackwell of Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. Anna Leieritz of Washington, D.C., her college roommate in Washington, D.C.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. Natasha Barone of Fayetteville, N.C., and Mrs. Ann Hoggard of Greenville, N.C., who were also her college roommates.

Best man was the groom’s brother, Mr. Charles A. Kohlmeier of Charlotte, N.C.

Groomsmen were Mr. Chris Conroy of Washington, D.C., college roommate of the groom, and friends, Mr. Nicholas Spike of Tenafly, N.J., Mr. John Krohn of Washington, D.C., and Mr. Laurent Crenshaw of Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Marisa Paul was wedding coordinator, assisted by Miss Laura Grace Aston.

Miss Allison Wells, cousin of the bride, presided at the register.

Miss Tatum Hines and Miss Bailey Sutton, cousins of the bride, distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Ms. Carol Sikkelee, organist, and Ms. Jennifer Himes, violinist.

A Scripture reading during the ceremony was provided by the groom’s father, Mr. Kevin Talley of York, Pa.

The couple was blessed with an Irish blessing provided by the groom’s brother, Mr. Jason Talley of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Following the ceremony, a cocktail hour and reception featuring The Thad Wilson Quintet jazz band was held at the Arts Club of Washington, D.C.

The couple will be honeymooning at Playa de Carmen, Mexico, and will reside in Washington, D.C.

Events before the wedding included an engagement party hosted by friends of the couple Jan. 26, 2013, held at Bobby Van’s Steakhouse in Washington, D.C.; an engagement party with a pig picking hosted by Mrs. Annette Kirby and Mr. Brock Kirby June 22, 2013, in Mount Olive, N.C.; a “something-old-something-new-some- thing-borrowed-some-thing-blue” shower and brunch hosted by Mrs. Clara Hines and Mrs. Della Swinson, aunts of the bride, and her cousins, held April 5, 2014, in Mount Olive; a bachelor trip hosted by the groomsmen in Tampa, Fla., April 5 and 6, 2014; a bachelorette trip hosted by the bridesmaids in Montego Bay, Jamaica, held April 23 through 26, 2014; a tea party and bridal shower hosted by her bridesmaids May 10, 2014, in Washington, D.C.; a rehearsal dinner at Prima Piatti hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kohlmeier in Washington, D.C.; and a bridesmaids’ breakfast held June 14, 2014, hosted by the bride’s mother and held in Washington, D.C.
