Winders-Sparks
Ashley Brooke Winders and Travis Ray Sparks exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 19 at 5 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with Dr. Richard Glosson officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Sheriff Carey and Teresa Winders of Pikeville and the granddaughter of Velma Sullivan and the late Brooks Sullivan of Pinkney and the late Aaron and Ernestine Winders of Fremont.
She is a 2007 honor graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2012 magna cum laude graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art education.
The groom is the son of Cynthia and Timothy Boyette of Goldsboro and Donald and Pamela Sparks of Spring Hope and the grandson of Billy and Margaret Talton of Goldsboro and Glen and Carolyn Sparks of Goldsboro.
He is a 2005 graduate of Rosewood High School and a graduate of Wayne Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program. He is employed with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore an ivory Casablanca strapless empire waist gown adorned in crystals and silver embroidery throughout. The dress was accented with a Duchess silk pleated ivory sash. The A-line gown of English netting flowed into a chapel-length train accented with crystals, beads and a beaded hemline.
Her headpiece was an ivory fingertip veil trimmed with crystal beads.
The bride carried a bouquet of ivory Virginia roses, orange spray roses, hot pink miniature carnations, green hypericum berries and ruscus handtied in ivory ribbon.
Jessica Winders Rouse was her sister’s matron of honor, while Careen Winders served as her sister’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Emily Pittman of Pikeville, cousin of the bride; Savannah Boyette of Goldsboro, sister of the groom; and Alyssa Herring of Calypso, Brooke Kirby of Fremont and Laura Westbrook of Grantham, friends of the couple.
Donald Sparks, father of the groom, was best man.
Groomsmen were Chad Sparks of Castalia, D.J. Sparks of Spring Hope and Glenn Strickland of Farmville, brothers of the groom; Jason Rouse of Moss Hill, brother-in-law of the groom; and Bradley Hill of Goldsboro, Dustin Sittig of Goldsboro and Michael Paxinos of Goldsboro, friends of the couple.
Mrs. Crystal Horton of New Bern and Miss Melissa Sullivan of Raleigh, cousins of the bride, were honorary bridesmaids.
Hannah Cuddington, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Samuel Rau, cousin of the groom, was ringbearer.
Sheila Warrick directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Kristan Strickland, sister-in-law of the groom. Cristina Pender, friend of the couple, distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Alice Campbell, organist and pianist, and Amber Winders, vocalist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at Lane Tree Golf Club. Phyllis Patterson was director. Randy and Gail Pittman and Tommy and Peggy Flowers were greeters. Wanda Starling and Debbie Sullivan served the wedding cake.
After their wedding trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., the couple will reside in Fremont.
Events held before the wedding included an engagement party Oct. 15 hosted by the bride’s parents; a miscellaneous wedding shower March 11 at Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church hosted by ladies of the church and family; a miscellaneous wedding shower March 18 at Pikeville Baptist Church hosted by Mrs. Carolyn Green and Mrs. Penny Withrow; a lingerie shower March 24 hosted by Jessica Rouse and Laura Westbrook; a bachelorette weekend April 13 through 15 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., hosted by Jessica Rouse and Carianne Winders; a bachelor party April 20 in Raleigh hosted by friends of the groom; a miscellaneous shower April 28 at the Lassiter home hosted by Dawn Lassiter and Kathy Marlow; and a bridal brunch May 12 at the home of Debbie Sullivan, aunt of the bride.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at St. Paul Church.
