Cummings - Ballance
GREENVILLE — Stephanie Dawn Ballance and Alan Keith Cummings of Greenville exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Allen officiating.
The bride is the daughter of William Roscoe Ballance Jr. and Denise Head Ballance of Fremont and the granddaughter of the late William Roscoe Ballance Sr. and Geraldine Pate Ballance of Fremont and Lem Edward Head and Edith Pender Head of Eureka.
She is a 2005 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in family and consumer sciences education. She is employed as a teacher at Pitt County Schools.
The groom is the son of Horace Lane Walters of Saint Pauls and the late Eula Frances Cummings of Pembroke and the grandson of the late Jethro and Edith Walters of Saint Pauls and the late Aquilla and Frances Ellen Cummings of Pembroke.
He is a 2000 graduate of D.H. Conley High School in Greenville and attended Pitt Community College for credits toward his associate degree. He is employed as an equipment operator at Greenville Utilities.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father.
She wore a strapless A-line gown of ivory English netting covered with an Alencon lace overlay. The back was adorned with clusters of rhinestones, clear sequins and bugle beads. The scalloped hemline flowed into a semi-cathedral train enhanced with Alencon lace and Swarovski crystal and pearl embellishments. The front was embellished with bugle beads and pearls.
Her headpiece was an elbow-length veil with Alencon lace.
The bride carried a bouquet of purple hydrangeas and white stephanotis.
Karlie Newsome was matron of honor, while Elle Dubberly was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Marianna Gray, Jill Joyner, Ginger Wendt, Nikki Kornegay, Heather Hoell and Bethany Cooper.
Randy Cummings was best man.
Groomsmen were David Telfair, Leon Kornegay, Daniel Ballance, Daniel Newsome, Chris Rouse, Tony Richards, Adam McRoy and Jason Haddock.
Payton Cummings was the junior bridesmaid.
Julie and Kayla Wendt were flowergirls. R.J. Cummings was ringbearer.
Delores Gray and Debbie Smith directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs was Paula Cummings.
Terry Langley was a special helper.
A program of wedding music was provided by Carolyn Castania, pianist; Jeane Anderson and Kim Davis, vocalists; and Luke Forehand, guitarist and vocalist.
Following the ceremony, an hors d’oevres reception at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville. The couple took part in a traditional cake cutting and the Native American tradition of drinking from a wedding vase at the same time for good luck.
After their wedding trip to Cape Carteret, the couple will reside in Greenville.
Events held before the wedding included a lingerie shower in April at the home of Karlie Newsome in Fremont hosted by the matron and maid of honor; a bridal shower in May at Eureka United Methodist Church hosted by Delores Gray and Debbie Smith, aunts of bride; and a shower in June at the home of Jenny and Tony Ballance of Fremont hosted by Jenny Allen and Jenny Ballance, aunts of the bride.
Randy and Kris Cummings hosted a rehearsal dinner at Brook Valley Country Club.
