Williams - Kornegay
SNOW HILL — Chye DaQuita Kornegay of Greensboro and Leonard Calvin Williams Jr. of Fort Steward, Ga., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church, with elder Matthew Bride Jr. officiating.
The bride is the daughter of apostles Douglas L. and Cynthia S. Kornegay of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Maggie M. Kornegay and the late Leslie “Cute” Kornegay of Goldsboro and Barbara U. Dawson and the late James O. Sutton of Greenville.
She graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 2002 and A&T State University of Greensboro in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary math. She is employed at East Chapel Hill High School.
The groom is the son of elders Leonard Calvin Williams Sr. and Maxine B. Williams of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Major and Luester Williams of Tuskege, Ala., and Frankie Bride and the late Matthew Bride Sr. of Goldsboro.
He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 2003 and Saint Augustine College of Raleigh in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in human performance and wellness. He is serving in the United States Army as a second lieutenant stationed at Fort Steward.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a diamond white satin-back taffeta strapless fitted gown with crystal details. The surplus wrapped bodice was adorned with embroidery and Swarovski crystals. Satin ruches asymmetrically ran throughout the gown and the caught-up bubble hem.
Her headpiece was a cage veil accented with fabric flowers, feathers and a rhinestone pearl ornament.
Tamikia Kornegay and Vaquia Allen were maids of honor.
Bridesmaids were Shannon Banks, friend of the bride; Shope Dawson, Kamisha Holmes and Latiqua Dortch, cousins of the bride; and Hershey Mallette and Janeya Mitnaul, sorority sisters of the bride.
Dishan Smith and Charlie Lawrence were best men.
Groomsmen were William Lindsey, friend of the groom; Scotty Hargrove, Fidel George and Bruce Mount, fraternity brothers of the groom; and Ayinde “A.J. Kornegay and Tessara “T.D.” Kornegay, brothers of the bride.
Ushers were Gary Baxter and Greg Baxter, fraternity brothers of the groom.
Kaylin Parks was flower girl. DeVonte’ Young was ringbearer.

Sharita Oates directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Jayne Ford. Kayla Sutton, Laura Pryor and Sierra Jackson distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Monty Best, pianist, and Charise Williams and Rangel McLaurin, vocalists.
Following the ceremony, a dinner and dance reception was held at Walnut Creek Country Club.
After their wedding trip to Dayton Beach and Orlando, Fla., the couple will reside at Fort Steward.
Events held before the wedding included a bridal shower May 16 at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by the bride’s sister.
The couple’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the home of the brides parents.
