TOPEKA, Kan. — Grace Leigh Brown of Topeka and Cory Alexander Mitchell exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at The Woodward, with the Rev. Joan Porter officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Paul and Diane Brown of Goldsboro, the granddaughter of the late Frank Brown III, Virginia Temple, J. Nelson Kornegay and the late Helen Outlaw Kornegay of Goldsboro and the stepgranddaughter of Faye Talton Kornegay of Goldsboro.
She is a graduate of Southern Wayne High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies. She attends Washburn University in Topeka for a master’s degree in business administration. She is employed as a merchandise distribution analyst at Payless Corp.
The groom is the son of Roy and Carolyn Mitchell of Topeka and the grandson of Glenn and Mildred Mitchell of Salina, Kan., Lois Swanson of Olathe, Kan., and the late Stan Swanson of Axtel, Kan.
He is a graduate of Shawnee Heights High School and the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and communications. He is employed as the store manager of Big O Tires.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a formal strapless gown of ivory silk taffeta. The bodice featured asymmetrical wrapping adorned with vintage-inspired crystal detailing on the lower left of the drop waist. It had a chapel train with silk-covered buttons adorning the back of the bodice.
The bride carried a round bouquet of dark red roses and black magic calla lilies wrapped in red satin ribbon.
Melissa Farmer was her friend’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Jani Burns and Joe Currin, friends of the bride.
Nicholas Mitchell was his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were Kelly Mitchell, brother of the groom, and Jeffrey White, friend of the groom.
Elizabeth Taylor, friend of the couple, directed the wedding.
A program of wedding music was provided by Studio String Quartet of Topeka.
Following the ceremony, the couple and their parents hosted a dinner and dance receptiosn in the library of The Woodward.
After their wedding cruise to the southern Caribbean, the couple will reside in Topeka.
Events held before the wedding include an engagement party dinner at Paisano’s Restaurant hosted by the bride’s father; a wedding shower at Providence United Methodist Church hosted by New Covenant class; a lingerie party at the home of Melissa Farmer hosted by Ms. Farmer, Emily Odom and Beth Overman, friends of the bride; a bachelor-bachelorette party hosted by Joe Currin, friend of the couple; a bridesmaids’ luncheon hosted by the bride at Bravo Restaurant during which time the bride presented gifts to her attendants; and a wedding shower at Brookwood Covenant Church hosted by Alma Baker, Jan Derms, Marilyn Ashlund, Louise Kramer, Bonnie Holmaten and Connie Swedlund; and a weekend stay and entertainment at the beach home of the bride’s grandparents hosted by J. Nelson and Faye Kornegay.
The groom’s uncles and aunts, Roger Mitchell, Drell and Cheryl Mitchell and Ron and Glenda Kline hosted a brunch at The Woodward Oct. 4.
The bride’s parents hosted a dinner and dance reception Oct. 17 at Wayne Shrine Club.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka.
