Whetsell-Somek
MOUNT OLIVE — Katherine Kristine Somek of Sudbury, Ontario, and Benjamin Ray Whetsell exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. at Salem Advent Christian Church, with the Rev. Douglas Dexter officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Robert Somek of Sudbury and Amira Milad of Toronto, Ontario, and the granddaughter of Rita Rosetta Somek and the late William Michael Somek of Renfrew, Ontario, and the late Naguib and Rosa Milad of Cairo, Egypt.
She is a 2007 summa cum laude graduate of Mount Olive College with degrees in business management and human resource management. She will attend Campbell University for an MBA in finance. She is employed as in managerial accountant and human resources at Ag ProVision LLC in Kenansville.
The groom is the son of Thomas Elwood and Brenda Rankin Whetsell of Mount Olive and the grandson of the late Vernon Ray and Elnora Price Whetsell of Mount Olive and Pauline Hyden Rankin and the late George Benjamin Rankin of Staunton, Va.
He is a 2000 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and attends Mount Olive College for a degree in management and organizational development. He is employed as a store manager at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Smithfield.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a satin A-line dress with a ruched V-neck tank and a beaded embroidered empire waist. It featured a satin chapel train.
Her headpiece was a two-tiered fingertip-length veil with crystals.
The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of cream roses and stock tied with ivory satin ribbon and pearl studs. Entwined in her bouquet was her father’s iron engineering ring.
Emily Anthony of Centreville, Md., was her friend’s maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Lindsay Vivier of Sudbury, Ashley Grady of Faison and Molly Morrow of Jacksonville, friends of the bride.
Brenton Hood of Mount Olive was his friend’s best man.
Groomsmen were Jonathan Barwick of Mount Olive, Daniel Davis of Pikeville and Thomas Dexter of Athens, Ga., friends of the groom.
Ushers were Joshua Price of Goldsboro and Michael Albertson of Grantham, friends of the groom.
Vanessa Knotts of Goldsboro was the flower girl. Landon Davis of Pikeville was the ringbearer.
Lindsey McClellan of Gordonsville, Va., directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs were Cynthia Lewis of Goldsboro and Jennifer Montgomery of Athens.
A program of wedding music was provided by Brenda Dexter of Dudley, pianist, and Paige Barwick, violinist.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s father held a reception at Southern Wayne Country Club.
The couple took a wedding trip to Las Vegas, Nev.
Events held before the wedding included a bridal shower June 13 at Murphy’s Place in Mount Olive hosted by Emily Anthony, Molly Morrow and Ashley Grady; a shower July 10 at the home of Amanda Woodburn in Kenansville hosted by Ms. Woodburn and Linda Batchelor, co-workers of the bride; a bachelor weekend in July in Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a bachelorette weekend in August in Centreville, Md.; and a stock-the-bar party Sept. 12 at the home of John Bell in Mount Olive hosted by Bell, Kelli Gurley, Joshua Price and Cynthia Lewis and Jonathan and Paige Barwick.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner Oct. 9 at Pupetta’s Bar and Grill.
